Thanks to a grant from the Keta Legacy Foundation and the support of the Methow Valley School District, CWP Project Coordinator Cal Waichler and educator Katharine Bill developed wolverine-centered curriculum for 2nd grade and high school in 2025.

2nd Grade Lessons
CWP’s 2nd Grade science lessons introduce students to the wild, wintry world of the North Cascades and the wildlife that are uniquely adapted to live there. Building off a presentation of exciting wildlife photography and clips of researchers studying wolverines, students engage with the methods that researchers use to study rare wolverines and align with NGSS standards in the process. This curriculum is for any 2nd grade educator interested in bringing the wolverine and mountain ecosystem to the classroom.

High School Lessons
Our two high school science lessons place wildlife research techniques in the hands of students. Building off a short film and a presentation about wildlife research techniques, students engage in skills useful in many outdoor careers such as route planning, wildlife tracking and monitoring data analysis. Finally, students analyze the biodiversity and biogeography of the Cascades and explore what it is like to be a field scientist.
