This year marks the beginning of the Cascades Wolverine Project’s tenth year of monitoring wolverines in the North Cascades, mapping community wolverine observations across the Pacific Northwest, and storytelling across the continent.
What started as a small effort to learn more about one of the least-known animals in our mountains has grown into a community-powered conservation project involving scientists, volunteers, educators, mountain athletes, guides, land managers, artists, businesses, and thousands of people who simply care about wild places.
The past year brought some remarkable milestones: our first scientific paper, eleven individual wolverines identified through eight years of monitoring, a new public mapping tool for community observations, free science curriculum for educators, an expanded wolverine ambassador program, standing-room-only events, and millions of views through Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom and Patagonia. None of this would be possible without the people who have supported, volunteered with, shared, and believed in this work.
As we enter our tenth year, we’re asking you to help us keep the momentum going. Your support helps put skis on the ground, bait on the cables, and “Wolverine Paw” pastries in the bellies of our ravenous field team (thanks to Ginger of the Mazama Store!). Your donation expands education and community science, and keeps the story of North Cascades wolverines moving into the future–a future where people and wildlife belong.
Please make a gift today and help us make year ten our biggest year yet.
