Today we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of t

Today we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act (ESA)! Just a month ago, wolverines in the contiguous US were federally protected under the ESA. Robust science-governed legislation is more important than ever for the wolverine, as threats like climate change and development shrink prime habitat. Our community-led project is excited to navigate this new phase in US wolverine conservation, and we can still use your support in our winter fundraiser (link in bio). More on why we support the listing:

🔍The decision is based on the latest research showing that neighboring populations in Canada appear to be declining, along with projected declines in suitable habitat across the contiguous US, due to the loss of spring snow and changes in human land-use, including roads, development, and recreation.

🐾Wolverines are an enigmatic and under-studied species living primarily on federal lands. We believe the federal government is best equipped to scale up the monitoring efforts necessary to track population trends.

🤝We further believe that collaboration with state, non-governmental organizations, and tribes–bolstered by public engagement–will be essential to ensure that wolverines fully recover.

Monitoring Highlights - Part 1! As 2023 comes to a close, we reflect on the first 5 years of CWP's monitoring initiative in the North Cascades. Peer through our cameras into the captivating world of high-country wildlife, accompanied by perceptive statistics on our monitoring efforts.

Currently, we are in the process of analyzing last year's camera trap data, totaling a whopping 108,481 images. Stay tuned for Part 2, where we will share the top 10 species we encountered during our first 5 years.

We're now counting down the days until our winter field season. The calendar is filling up with field visits and outreach events. To keep our monitoring stations, storytelling, community science and collaborations going, we need support!

We are now fundraising $15,000 to cover this winter’s expenses.

Nope! That’s the wildlife of the North Cascades visiting our monitoring stations. We’ve captured 65 different species since we began in late 2017!

Winter is on its way and so is a free evening of wolverine stories! Kicks off at 6:00pm on November 1st at the Royal Room in Seattle.

Cascades Wolverine Project co-founder (and phenomenal wildlife photographer!) David Moskowitz will engage the public in stories about one of the most amazing and rare species found in the Pacific Northwest—the wolverine. Learn about what the return of this species to our region means for the conservation challenges and opportunities we face today.

We pulled it off! Thanks to our community of supporters, our capitol campaign to upgrade our field equipment was a success.

We’re so grateful to Kevin and Cassandre McGowan for extending $20,000 and acting as matching donors in this campaign. Their committed support packs a huge punch for our mission and wildlife research. In total, you all donated a total of over $28,000 to fund the purchase of two new snowmobiles.

Now we are anticipating a great winter field season with improved access to our study area and monitoring stations. Crossing our fingers for more wolverine detections!
